In a radio interview with Radio NOW on July 10, 2026, Argentine President Javier Milei revealed a packed international agenda for the coming weeks. The president confirmed that on July 25, 2026, he will travel to São Paulo, Brazil, to attend the event where Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, will be anointed by the Brazilian right as their presidential candidate. Milei also plans to stop in Brasília to meet with former President Bolsonaro, constituting a direct challenge to Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
The tour will continue to Peru, where he will attend the inauguration of Keiko Fujimori as president, and to Colombia for the inauguration of President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on August 7, 2026. During this trip, he will also visit Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, with whom Argentina has pending agreements to sign.
On July 26, 2026, Milei will head the inauguration of the 2026 Rural Exhibition (a major traditional agricultural and livestock fair in Argentina), delayed from its usual Saturday slot so the president can attend.
"It is the agenda of a President willing to open up to the world, seeking to triple trade. My trips work quite well because we have secured 150 billion dollars in investments through the RIGI (Large Investment Incentive Regime)," Milei highlighted.
During the same interview, Milei categorically stated that "there was a coup attempt from Congress", pointing out that there were 40 laws trying to bring down the economic program and seven impeachment attempts. He also mentioned street protests he classified as "terrorist" and asserted that his government deported more than 10,000 people last year.
The president accused the "destructive opposition," journalists, businessmen, and economists of trying to "break the model" and predicting a crisis scenario that never materialized. He highlighted that the country is experiencing "historical maximums" in GDP, private consumption, and exports, with growth of 2.3% in the first quarter.
Milei defended the inclusion of a state "shutdown" mechanism within the economic reform package. According to the president, the initiative aims to prevent the State from continuing to execute spending when budget resources are insufficient. "Whoever is against the shutdown is in favor of unbalanced budgets," he stated.
The proposal drew objections from Vice President Victoria Villarruel and some governors, but Milei was blunt: opposing it implies endorsing "fiscal irresponsibility," "excessive spending," and "the abuse of politics against good Argentines."
Regarding the reform of the BCRA (Central Bank of the Argentine Republic) Charter, the president was highly critical of Kirchnerism: "The charter created by Kirchnerism is designed so you walk into the Central Bank, raise your hand, and they throw a wad of cash at you. It's nonsense." Milei claimed he inherited a daily inflation rate of 1.5% and an economy on track for 15,000% annual inflation.
On the economic front, media reported that the Ministry of Economy, led by Luis Caputo, stopped paying subsidies three months ago to oil companies producing natural gas that committed investments in Vaca Muerta (Argentina's massive shale gas and oil formation) and Tierra del Fuego through the Gas Plan. The debt has accumulated to about 220 million US dollars, causing concern among top executives who typically finance their investments with their own cash flow.
The government is advancing a plan to boost mortgage credit with the help of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS) of ANSES (the agency managing Argentina's social security and pension funds). During a lunch at the headquarters of ADEBA (Association of Argentine Banks), Deputy Minister of Economy José Luis Daza, Secretary of Finance Federico Furiase, and the Deputy Executive Director of FGS Operations, Raúl Osvaldo Benítez (a close ally of Minister Sandra Pettovello), discussed the issue with bankers.
The government is focusing on securing governors' support to approve the electoral reform and eliminate the PASO (Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory Primaries) for the 2027 elections. This strategy, driven by Karina Milei, is reportedly not yielding the desired results because the ruling party lacks the necessary votes in the Senate. The reform requires an absolute majority in both chambers: a floor of 37 votes in the Senate and 129 in the Chamber of Deputies. The officialism currently holds 21 seats in the upper house and 95 in the lower house.
Chancellor Pablo Quirno will arrive in Washington next week to participate on Thursday in a global meeting convened by the United States to combat what the Donald Trump administration defines as "the resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism." Secretary of State Marco Rubio invited ministers from over 60 countries, including Argentina, to the summit.
When asked about the Argentine National Team's chances in the 2026 World Cup, Milei expressed confidence: "Argentina has the best soccer player of all time, plus the fact that they have a head coach with extraordinary leadership capacity," referring to Lionel Messi and Lionel Scaloni.
The president praised Scaloni's ability to manage a squad of superstars: "Having to manage the egos of superstars is not a job for just anyone," and assured that when the coach stops managing, "any of the most prestigious universities in the world will hire him to teach leadership classes."
Javier Milei and former presidential advisor Demian Reidel uploaded an academic paper titled "Minimum Viable Scale, Extinction, and Escape under Increasing Returns" to social media, a continuation of the presentation the president gave at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The paper aims to be published in peer-reviewed specialized journals.
Senator Beatriz Ávila (Independence Bloc, Tucumán) stated that Milei's words "open the door to dialogue", but warned there is still "a long way to go" to recover federalism. "Investing in public works and the development of the provinces is a responsibility of the Nation that cannot wait any longer," she pointed out, as reported by La Gaceta.
Vice President Victoria Villarruel visited Ingenio La Florida, belonging to the Los Balcanes Sugar Company in Tucumán, where she committed to pushing the treatment of the Biofuels Law. Company authorities presented a diagnosis of the sugar industry's situation and raised the need for public policies to strengthen production.
