Máximo Kirchner Leads Rally, Promoted for 2027 Presidency

A New Step in the Territory

On July 9, 2026, during Argentina's Independence Day celebrations, National Deputy Máximo Kirchner led a major rally in the city of Carmen de Areco, located in the rural interior of the Buenos Aires province. The event, scheduled for 3:30 PM local time, marks another milestone in his territorial tour as the opposition prepares for future political challenges.

The local mayor of Carmen de Areco, Iván Villagrán, who has governed the district since 2019 and is a member of La Cámpora (a major Peronist youth organization), recently expressed his strong support for the Deputy. Villagrán proposed Kirchner as a potential presidential candidate for the Fuerza Patria coalition for the 2027 elections.

Reasons Behind the Local Endorsement

Villagrán explained his support for Kirchner during an interview on the local streaming channel 'Uno Tres Cinco'. The mayor highlighted that "Máximo is a figure who gives our activists mystique and motivation", praising his direct way of communicating. He also emphasized the historical importance of the Kirchner family for many Argentines, noting public gratitude for policies like Zona Fría (a government policy that subsidized energy costs for Argentina's colder southern regions, highly valued by citizens) and their firm opposition to the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He also stressed the need for the leader to "walk through the territories" so people can meet him in person, describing him as someone with the "simplicity of a small-town boy" and a unifying role within the political space.

The 2026 Territorial Tour

The event in Carmen de Areco represents the fourth major public act led by Máximo Kirchner this year. His previous agenda included:

  • April: María Teresa, Santa Fe province.
  • Early June: Paraná, Entre Ríos province.
  • June 20: A flag-waving rally at Parque Lezama in Buenos Aires City, marking the anniversary of the house arrest of Cristina Kirchner (former President and current central figure of the movement).

The Message of June 20

During the last rally mentioned at Parque Lezama, Máximo Kirchner was the sole speaker and sent a strong message about the future leadership of the movement, stating that "it is very clear who should lead this process", referring to Cristina Kirchner.

On that occasion, he also criticized those who talk about unity but do not visit the former President, and launched a phrase interpreted as a direct message to the Buenos Aires province Governor Axel Kicillof: "We want to have a female candidate and not default candidates".

Thursday's meeting in Carmen de Areco continued with an open-chat format, where the Deputy interacted with neighbors, activists, neighborhood club representatives, retirement centers, community boards, and union leaders, solidifying his presence in the Buenos Aires province territory.
