Tragedy in Canada: 11-Year-Old Boy Dies of Rabies After Waking Up With a Bat on His Face

03/07/2026 10:49 - Internacionales

A Preventable Tragedy

According to international reports, an 11-year-old boy in Canada has tragically died from rabies, a severe viral disease that attacks the central nervous system. The fatal outcome occurred 19 days after the child woke up with a bat resting on his face.

Although the young boy presented visible bite marks, he was not immediately taken to a medical center. The lack of prompt medical attention and the failure to administer the appropriate post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment proved fatal for the child.

The Importance of Rabies Prevention

Rabies is a disease that, once clinical symptoms appear, has a mortality rate of nearly 100%. Therefore, experts insist that any contact with wild animals—especially bats, which are common carriers of the virus in North America—must be urgently evaluated by a healthcare professional to initiate the corresponding vaccination protocol. Bats have tiny teeth, and their bites might not always be felt, which makes immediate medical evaluation crucial even if the bite seems minor.
