President Javier Milei met with lawmakers from his coalition, La Libertad Avanza, to detail a project that promises to change the country's monetary history, returning the Central Bank (BCRA) to its true north: stability and the protection of citizens' savings.
To understand the magnitude of this event, it is important to note that the Casa Rosada (the Argentine equivalent of the White House) hosted a high-level summit on July 13, 2026. The meeting lasted two and a half hours in the Salón Héroes de Malvinas (a hall dedicated to the Falklands War heroes) and included key figures such as Karina Milei, Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli, Speaker of the House Martín Menem, and Senate bloc leader Patricia Bullrich. The goal was to present the reform project to the BCRA's Organic Charter, designed jointly with Central Bank President Santiago Bausuli, Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger.
During the meeting, Deputy Santiago Santurio proposed an idea that excited the President: including a shield for the INDEC (the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses, similar to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics) in the project to prevent "under-declarations" of inflation in the future. The objective is to guarantee total transparency and precision in the data, which is fundamental for the correct functioning of the new monetary policy and to prevent tricks from central administrations.
Although officials indicated that there is still no confirmed date for sending the bill to the National Congress, it is expected that the debate will begin after the winter recess. Deputy Damián Arabia summarized the spirit of the reform: "The only function will be to preserve the value of the currency of all Argentines. Financing of the Treasury will be prohibited, both indirectly and directly from the Central Bank, as well as restricting profits."
