Benicio Guyot's Moving Words to Moria Casán

The pain from the death of Ernestina País—one of Argentina's most beloved television personalities—continues to move the entertainment world. On the morning of Sunday, June 29, 2026, Moria Casán opened her program "La mañana con Moria" (broadcast on eltrece, Argentina's Channel 13) with a story that moved viewers: the conversation she had with Benicio Guyot, the son of the late journalist.

For context: Moria Casán is considered the "Queen of Argentine Theater" and has been a television icon for decades. Ernestina País was a pioneering female host in Argentine television, known for breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry.

Benicio, 22 years old, sent a video to the host while returning from the cemetery after saying goodbye to his mother. "I'm very attached to the neighborhood, and you're from Parque Leloir, where Indio Solari also left from. What a strange year this is," the young man said in the message, as Moria recounted on air.

Parque Leloir is a residential area in the western suburbs of Buenos Aires. Indio Solari is a legendary Argentine rock musician who also had connections to this area.

"Dear Benicio was kind enough to send me a video when he was coming from burying his mother. He remembered her with joy, with the best of memories" — Moria Casán

The host explained that Benicio remembered his mother "with joy" and highlighting "the best" of her. Upon seeing the images of the casket with Ernestina's name, Moria could not contain her emotion: "My God, what pain," she expressed.

Ernestina's Secret Project

Romina Gaetani—an acclaimed Argentine actress—revealed in a live report with TN (Todo Noticias) from the Zucotti funeral home that her castmate was working on a very special personal project.

TN is Argentina's leading 24-hour news channel, similar to CNN in format.

"She was very happy, very excited about the tour. In her free moments, she would write on her computer a book about her life, nothing more and nothing less," Romina shared about Ernestina País.

The actress also recalled how Ernestina supported her in early 2026 when she made a public complaint about domestic violence: "She embraced my soul... Without knowing me well, she left me a message because she was very worried, she told me not to enter a dark place."

Mario Pergolini's Words

Mario Pergolini—a pioneering figure in Argentine television and radio—spoke on "No preguntes por Rusia" (broadcast on Vorterix, a major Argentine radio/TV network) about the tragedy: "It was a horrendous blow. Tremendous what happened to Ernestina País, a terrible tragedy, very ugly."

Pergolini created and hosted CQC (Caiga Quien Caiga), a satirical news program that became a cultural phenomenon in Argentina and across Latin America.

The host recalled Ernestina's struggle with addiction: "A beloved woman. Even in moments of misfortune, everyone wanted her to come through."

His words sparked debate on social media because Ernestina replaced Pergolini on CQC in 2009, becoming the first and only female host of the program. "For Mario, he had completed a cycle, no one did it like him. I admired him and taking that place was an honor," she had said at the time.

The Farewell at Chacarita Cemetery

José María Muscari—director of "El divorcio del año" (The Divorce of the Year), the play Ernestina was performing in—also expressed his anguish: "Both I and all the people who loved her, we still can't react. Let's try to remember her as she was, a luminous, empathetic, and happy person."

The wake was held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Sala Alessandria (Av. Córdoba 5084, Buenos Aires). Her remains were then transferred to the Actors' Pantheon at Chacarita Cemetery.

Chacarita Cemetery is one of Argentina's most historic cemeteries, and the Actors' Pantheon is a special section where many of Argentina's most beloved performers are laid to rest.

Alejandro Guyot—Ernestina's ex-husband and Benicio's father—posted a never-before-seen photo of the journalist with their son as a child, accompanied by the phrase "closing chapters" and the song "Te dejo ir" by Almaviva. Guyot is currently in a relationship with Josefina Licitra.
