On June 26, 2026, the Argentine entertainment and journalism community was shaken by the death of Ernestina Pais (54). The beloved host and actress lost her life after being struck by the Tren de la Costa (a coastal commuter train line in the northern suburbs of Greater Buenos Aires) at a railway crossing in Acassuso, a neighborhood within the San Isidro district.
According to the Argentine newspaper La Capital, on July 8, 2026, the results of the toxicology test requested by the San Isidro Prosecutor Office were revealed. The study categorically confirmed that Pais had no traces of alcohol or illegal substances in her blood at the time of the crash.
This report clears one of the main doubts in the investigation and reinforces the initial hypothesis regarding the physical condition of the host when she attempted to cross the tracks with the level crossing barriers down.
A relevant piece of information that emerged recently is that, although she was physically fit to drive, the actress did not have a legal permit to do so. Her driving license had been suspended for over a year in early April 2026. This sanction was due to an incident on March 3 in Vicente Lopez (another district in Greater Buenos Aires), where the journalist had refused to take a breathalyzer test.
The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) of Martinez continues to work to clarify the case. The results of the final technical expert reports related to the train crash are still awaited.
It is remembered that Pais was driving her black Honda City to attend a performance of the play El divorcio del anio (The Divorce of the Year) at the Teatro Nini Marshall in Tigre, a city in the Buenos Aires province. The director of the play, Jose Maria Muscari, has already testified in the case to corroborate schedules and data related to the work of the actress, as she was heading to the theater at the time of the fatal accident.
A Lasting Legacy: Beyond the circumstances of the accident, the memory of Ernestina Pais as a disruptive and pioneering journalist on shows like Caiga Quien Caiga (CQC), a famous satirical TV show, lives on in the memory of her audience and colleagues, leaving an indelible mark on Argentine television.
