🎼 About the Works: A Journey Through Romanticism

Maestro Silvio Viegas described the program as "a memorable encounter with musical romanticism," highlighting that it offers "two gems from the 19th-century repertoire" rarely performed on local stages.

Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2

Considered one of the most beautiful compositions for violin, this work combines great technical demands in its opening movement with the melancholic lyricism of the second movement, known as the famous Romance, culminating in a finale of gypsy character where the violin engages in an electrifying dialogue with the orchestra.

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 "Winter Dreams"

Subtitled "Winter Dreams," this symphony represents the Russian composer's first venture into symphonic form. Though less famous than his final three symphonies, it retains "the freshness and purest essence of his melodic genius." Its four movements evoke everything from the vastness of a journey through Russia's frozen landscapes to nostalgic melodies and a grandiose finale based on an authentic Russian folk song.
