Four major teachers' unions—SUTEBA, FEB, AMET, and UDOCBA—organized a massive strike affecting public schools throughout Buenos Aires Province, Argentina's most populous region with over 17 million residents. According to union reports, participation exceeded 90% across most educational institutions.
The strike, reported for June 30, 2026, impacted all educational levels: kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools. This represents the first independent strike by these provincial unions this year, as previous work stoppages joined national demonstrations.
FEB president Liliana Olivera highlighted the economic reality facing Argentine educators:
| Economic Indicator | Monthly Increase |
|---|---|
| General Inflation | 2.1% |
| Food Prices | 2.5% |
| Services | 2.6% |
Matching inflation means losing ground. General inflation was 2.1%, but food rose 2.5% and services 2.6%—teachers are falling behind, Olivera stated.
Argentina has faced chronic inflation for decades, making wage negotiations a constant battle for workers.
SUTEBA reports various demonstrations throughout Buenos Aires Province:
Educational activities held in public spaces to raise awareness about teachers' conditions.
Informational pickets at major intersections in Greater Buenos Aires and interior cities.
Written complaints submitted to Educational Boards, School Councils, and Municipal Legislatures.
