Just hours after Ernestina Pais was laid to rest at Chacarita Cemetery in Buenos Aires, her ex-husband Alejandro Guyot posted a photograph on Instagram that captured hearts across Argentina. The image, taken years earlier by Guyot himself, shows the beloved TV host standing among bamboo stalks with a serene yet powerful expression, while a young Benicio, only two or three years old at the time, looks curiously at the camera.
For international readers unfamiliar with Argentine television, Ernestina Pais was one of the country's most beloved media personalities. Born in 1972, she became a household name as the first and only female host of CQC (Caiga Quien Caiga), Argentina's version of the hit Argentine investigative entertainment show that aired from 2009 to 2011.
She later co-hosted Mañanas Informales (Informal Mornings), a popular daytime talk show where her infectious laugh and warm personality endeared her to millions of viewers. Her sister, Federica Pais, is also a well-known television presenter in Argentina.
The couple's son, Benicio Guyot, now 22 years old, was among the first to respond to his father's post. He shared the image on his own Instagram Stories and left a comment that said everything with just two characters: "Ma" (short for "Mamá" - Mom), along with a heart emoji. The message received over 800 likes and dozens of supportive responses.
Later, the young man posted a photo of his mother alongside a selfie with the message: "Thank you all for the beautiful messages."
Alejandro Guyot and Ernestina Pais shared a relationship spanning over ten years. Their son Benicio was born in 2004. After their separation, they maintained a respectful co-parenting relationship. Guyot is currently in a relationship with journalist Josefina Licitra.
The photograph is particularly meaningful as Guyot is a professional photographer. The artistic composition shows Ernestina strong and present, with an intense gaze, while young Benicio appears naturally beside her, unposed.
Ernestina Pais died on June 26, 2026 at the age of 54 in a train collision in Martínez, San Isidro, an affluent suburb north of Buenos Aires. Her Honda Civic was struck by the Tren de la Costa (Coastal Train) at the intersection of Sáenz Peña and El Cano streets around 7:25 PM, when she crossed the tracks while the crossing barrier was down. The official cause of death was severe traumatic brain injury.
The wake was held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Sala Alessandria, a funeral home located at Av. Córdoba 5084, in the Villa Crespo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Her remains were then transferred to the Panteón de Actores (Actors' Pantheon) at Chacarita Cemetery, the final resting place for many of Argentina's most celebrated performers.
The funeral brought together numerous Argentine celebrities, including Romina Gaetani (actress), José María Muscari (theater director), Benito Fernández (fashion designer), Gastón Pauls (actor), Leticia Brédice (actress), María Valenzuela (actress), Rafael Ferro (actor), Iliana Calabró (actress), and Malena Pichot (comedian). Her sister Federica Pais arrived with her partner Facundo Echeguren and their mother Milka Truol.
One of the most emotional moments came when attendees threw silver sequins onto the coffin as it entered the chapel, a symbolic farewell. Benicio carried his mother's casket during the final stretch of the procession.
Ernestina Pais will be remembered for her groundbreaking role in Argentine television, particularly her time on CQC (2009-2011), where she broke barriers as the show's first and only female host. Her work on Mañanas Informales left an indelible mark on viewers who found comfort in her laughter.
"I wish she knew how important she was to so many. I went through a sad period where watching Mañanas Informales and hearing her laugh would change my entire day. Her laugh was healing." This comment from a fan on Guyot's photo captures the profound impact she had on Argentine audiences.
