An intense polar air mass has settled over much of Argentina, causing a sharp drop in temperatures and widespread frost affecting more than 60 locations outside Patagonia. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Wednesday, June 25, 2025 will mark the coldest day of the week.
This weather phenomenon began on Monday with frost across vast regions of the country and will reach its peak intensity during the early hours of Wednesday. Temperatures will sit between 2°C and 4°C (35.6°F - 39.2°F) below normal values for this time of year.

The SMN maintains yellow alerts for intense cold across more than 15 provinces. A yellow alert indicates moderate risk for vulnerable populations:
The SMN also issued yellow alerts for snowfall across much of Patagonia, Argentina's southernmost region. Accumulations of 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) are expected on plateaus and 10-30 cm (4-12 inches) in mountainous areas, with even higher amounts in specific locations.
This benefits major winter tourist destinations including Bariloche, Ushuaia, Las Leñas, Penitentes, and Vallecito, which will see snowfall over the coming days. Snow is also anticipated in the mountain ranges of Córdoba and San Luis.
Zonda is a warm, dry wind similar to the Chinook or Föhn
Alert for the high mountain areas of Salta, Jujuy, La Rioja, and Catamarca in northwestern Argentina.
Forecast for NEA (Northeast Argentina), particularly Misiones, northern Corrientes, and eastern Formosa, with possible hail and strong gusts.
