The gaming universe took a significant leap forward this Monday when Valve officially launched the new Steam Machine, a compact desktop device arriving with an ambitious promise: running AAA titles in 4K resolution at 60 FPS using FSR technology, all within a device measuring just 15 centimeters on each side.
For those unfamiliar with the gaming landscape, Steam is the world's largest digital video game distribution platform, developed by Valve Corporation. Think of it as the "Netflix of video games" but where you purchase and own each title. Steam has over 132 million monthly active users globally and offers tens of thousands of games.
The new Steam Machine represents Valve's continued effort to bring PC gaming into the living room, bridging the gap between traditional consoles and powerful gaming computers.
The device presents itself as an elegant cube featuring a strip of LED lights in its exterior design, but what truly impresses lies inside. Equipped with a semi-custom AMD desktop CPU and GPU, the system offers power that exceeds the Steam Deck's capacity by more than six times. The Steam Deck, for context, is Valve's popular handheld gaming device released in 2022.
The operating system runs on SteamOS silently and, crucially for gamers, at low temperatures. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and an integrated power supply that eliminates the need for bulky external adapters.
SteamOS is a Linux-based operating system developed by Valve specifically for gaming. It provides access to the entire Steam library through an interface optimized for controllers, without requiring Windows. This means console-like simplicity with PC-level performance.
Valve offers four different configurations to suit each player's needs. The available options on the international market include the following prices with VAT included:
| Model | Price USD | Price EUR |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Machine 512 GB | $1,049 | €1,039 |
| Steam Machine 512 GB + Steam Controller | $1,128 | €1,108 |
| Steam Machine 2 TB | $1,349 | €1,359 |
| Steam Machine 2 TB + Steam Controller | $1,428 | €1,428 |
Highlighted Feature: The higher storage capacity versions (2 TB) include two additional interchangeable front plates: one in red fabric and another in solid walnut wood, allowing users to personalize the device's aesthetics.
The initial product distribution will occur directly through the Steam platform in various territories:
Argentine gamers and those in other Latin American countries will need to wait for future announcements regarding regional availability, as Valve has not confirmed launch dates for these markets.
To prevent scalpers and ensure a fair experience, Valve implemented a lottery reservation system. Interested buyers can register until Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 15:00 (Argentina time / UTC-3).
Each registered user will receive an email that same day with their status: direct entry to the reservation queue or placement on a waiting list for future batches.
The company explained that the cost planning that began in 2023 was significantly altered during the past year. The price increases in RAM memory and storage drives globally directly influenced the final component costs purchased in the last six months, making the original economic objective unfeasible.
Registration closes: June 25, 2026, 15:00 (Argentina time)
Shipping begins: June 29, 2026
The Steam Machine represents Valve's most ambitious attempt to bring premium PC gaming to the living room. With console simplicity but PC power, this compact cube could revolutionize how we think about gaming hardware. For international audiences, this launch signals Valve's continued commitment to expanding gaming accessibility worldwide.
