Monday afternoon turned into a tragedy in the heart of Mar del Plata, Argentina's most famous beach resort city. A bus on route 532 lost control and mounted the sidewalk along Boulevard Patricio Peralta Ramos, near the skatepark, striking several people waiting at the bus stop.
The accident occurred just after 7:00 PM on June 22, 2026, in the city center. The area is heavily trafficked, especially during afternoon hours when workers and students are returning home.
An 18-year-old woman lost her life at the scene. Authorities are working on formal identification and notification of family members.
Emergency teams carried out a complex rescue operation to extract people trapped under the vehicle, using specialized equipment including hydraulic cutting tools.
Six people were urgently transported to the Hospital Interzonal General de Agudos (HIGA), the city's main public hospital. One of them remains in serious condition receiving complex treatments.
The injured include a 15-year-old teenager and five adults with injuries of varying severity.

The Health Ministry reported that all patients are receiving medical care from emergency, diagnostic, and traumatology teams. A new medical update is expected at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, June 23.

Prosecutor Germán Vera Tapia, from the Negligent Crimes Prosecutor's Office, ordered technical examinations to determine the exact cause. The driver remains detained while the investigation continues.
