The government of Javier Milei is going through one of its deepest internal crises since taking office. The scandal known as "AdorniGate" - derived from the unexplained wealth of Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni - has triggered a political earthquake threatening to topple one of the key figures of Argentine libertarianism.
The situation reached a breaking point on Friday, June 20, 2026, when Milei summoned Adorni to the Quinta de Olivos (the Argentine presidential residence) for a meeting that lasted six hours. There, the President communicated the appointment of Adrián Ravier as the new presidential spokesperson, a move interpreted as the first step toward a possible exit for the current chief of staff.
In the Casa Rosada (Argentina's presidential palace), a date is already being discussed: July 2, 2026 could be "D-Day" for Adorni's continuity. However, official sources acknowledge that the courts may alter any political calculation.
Judge Ariel Lijo is in charge of the case regarding Adorni's wealth. This same judge prosecuted former Vice President Amado Boudou in 2014 for the Ciccone case, and in 2017 ordered his detention when Patricia Bullrich was Minister of Security.
The opposition in Congress promoted an interpellation scheduled for June 25, 2026, seeking to approve the censorship motion to remove Adorni.
While Milei attempts to manage the crisis, Vice President Victoria Villarruel is seizing the moment to regain prominence and mark her territory against the "Karinismo" (the inner circle led by Milei's sister, Karina Milei). During the Flag Day ceremony in Rosario, Villarruel was disinvited by Karina Milei from the official delegation, but she attended anyway, invited by Governor Maximiliano Pullaro.
The Vice President launched a forceful statement: "There is no one more at odds with Belgrano's values than him", clearly referring to Adorni. The tension between Villarruel and Milei's inner circle is evident: the Vice President was excluded from official protocol while Adorni maintained his privileged position.
A revealing detail: while the official delegation had already left Rosario, Villarruel remained greeting people, generating sympathy among those present.
Security Minister Patricia Bullrich emerges as one of the strengthened figures in this crisis. She was the most emphatic publicly in calling for Adorni's resignation and is now in charge of negotiations in the Senate to attempt to stop the interpellation.
With Ravier's appointment as spokesperson, Martín Matzkin from the Bullrich faction will enter the Chamber of Deputies. He currently serves as Undersecretary of Federal Programming and Legislative Articulation at the Ministry of Security.
Karina Milei is paying close attention to every detail with Bullrich: after the slight at the May 25 Cabildo event, the Presidency called her private office to officially invite her to the Rosario ceremony. At the event, Milei greeted his sister first, then crossed over to kiss Bullrich, and only after that shook Adorni's hand.
Adrián Ravier, national deputy for La Pampa province, was appointed as the new presidential spokesperson on June 19, 2026. A classical liberal economist with a PhD in Applied Economics and disciple of Jesús Huerta de Soto, Ravier represents a technical profile far from controversy.
However, his appointment carries an irony: Milei had insulted him on social media as "imbecile," "fraud," and "idiot." The relationship changed when Ravier congratulated Milei for bringing the Austrian school of economics into public debate.
Ravier is also one of the authorities of the Faro Foundation, presided by Agustín Laje. This could be a way for Karina Milei to have more presence in the libertarian think tank where she competes with Santiago Caputo.
From the ruling party, they are rehearsing a new discourse: "If Adorni doesn't leave, nothing happens. It has no impact on Government functioning, Congress, or general management. The opposition will have that banner, the vast majority of Argentines won't care, and it will fade with other topics and judicial timelines. Milei removes or changes his officials when he decides. Not when they try to impose it."
The strategy focuses on making the crisis depend exclusively on judicial pressure and not on political pressure from the opposition.
In Peronism, they're already talking about the "Adorni miracle": "There's a peak of Milei's negative image. Axel Kicillof (Buenos Aires Province Governor) gathers less than Cristina Kirchner, and CFK less than Peronist unity. The electoral strategy will be central."
