Presidente argentino en conferencia de prensa internacional con banderas de Argentina y España de fondo, ambiente profesional y diplomático
President Javier Milei has confirmed his international travel schedule for late June and early July 2026, during a moment of high political tension due to the situation of Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni, who faces a motion of censure driven by the opposition in the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house of Argentina's Congress).
Who is Javier Milei? An economist and libertarian politician who became President of Argentina in December 2023. Known for his unconventional style and radical economic reforms, he represents a new wave of right-wing leadership in Latin America.
What is the Cabinet Chief (Jefe de Gabinete)? Similar to a Prime Minister or Chief of Staff in other countries, this is the highest-ranking minister who coordinates all other ministries and serves as the link between the Executive and Legislative branches.
| Date | Destination | Activity |
|---|---|---|
| June 24 | Madrid, Spain | Conference and business meetings at CEU San Pablo University |
| June 25-27 | Madrid, Spain | Diplomatic and economic agenda |
| June 30 | Asunción, Paraguay | Mercosur Presidential Summit |
| July 4 | United States | Independence Day Celebrations |
The President will fly to Spain on June 24, 2026, one day after the special session in the Chamber of Deputies seeking the removal of the Cabinet Chief. He will stay for three days in the Spanish capital.
Milei will participate in a conference and hold meetings with business leaders at CEU San Pablo University, a prestigious private institution in Madrid.
Why Spain matters: This will be the libertarian's sixth trip to Spain. In previous visits, he met with Santiago Abascal (leader of Vox, a right-wing Spanish political party) and Isabel Díaz Ayuso (President of the Community of Madrid, a key political figure in Spanish conservatism).
On June 30, Milei will participate in Asunción at the Mercosur summit of heads of state.
What is Mercosur? A South American trade bloc founded in 1991, comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and associated countries. It promotes free movement of goods, people, and currency among member nations.
This will be the first meeting of the trade bloc following the entry into force of the free trade agreement with the European Union, one of the most significant commercial milestones for the region that could boost Argentine investments and exports.
The President will then travel to the United States for his 18th presentation in the country, where he will participate in Independence Day celebrations on July 4. The trip will take place during the FIFA World Cup being held across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
According to TN, Milei will defend "the core of the new Monroe or Donroe doctrine, named after President Trump, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful continent dedicated to growth and human flourishing."
The Monroe Doctrine: A U.S. foreign policy from 1823 that opposed European colonialism in the Americas. Milei's reference to "Donroe" appears to be a nod to Donald Trump's influence on hemispheric relations.
What is a motion of censure (moción de censura)? A parliamentary procedure to remove a high-ranking government official. In Argentina, it's established in Article 101 of the National Constitution and requires an absolute majority vote from members of each legislative chamber.
The motion against Manuel Adorni represents a significant political challenge, as the opposition seeks to remove the President's top minister. The vote is scheduled for June 23, just one day before Milei's departure for Spain.
