Government Reshuffles Priorities After World Cup

As Argentines recover from the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup (which concluded on July 19) and enjoy winter holidays, the Casa Rosada is moving forward with key economic measures and infrastructure decisions. With Congress in its winter recess, the executive branch is using executive orders and administrative agreements to push its agenda.

Inocencia Fiscal II: A New Attempt to Bring Dollars into the System

On Wednesday, July 23, 2026, Economy Minister Luis Caputo is expected to hold a press conference at the Palacio de Hacienda to officially present amendments to the Inocencia Fiscal (Tax Innocence) law. This second phase of the tax amnesty program aims to attract an estimated US$170 billion that is currently held outside the formal financial system. The proposal would eliminate income and asset thresholds, and adjust the definition of significant discrepancies. The term "blanqueo" (whitening) is commonly used in Argentina for such amnesties, which allow individuals to declare previously undeclared assets in exchange for reduced penalties.

Transfer of National Highway A012 to Santa Fe Province

Also on Wednesday, at noon, a key agreement will be signed to transfer control of a major national road to the province of Santa Fe. The ceremony will involve Chief of Staff Diego Santilli, Presidential Secretary General Karina Milei, and Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro. The Ruta Nacional A012, a vital corridor for grain transport to the ports of Greater Rosario, will be handed over for a period of 20 years. An initial investment of ARS $5 billion (approximately US$5.5 million at current exchange rates) is planned for pothole repair, sealing, and lighting improvements.

International Agenda

President Javier Milei is scheduled to travel to Brazil on Friday, July 24, 2026 to attend the Congress of the Liberal Party, where he will meet with Flavio Bolsonaro. On Sunday, July 26, Milei will open the Exposición Rural de Palermo, Argentina's premier agricultural fair, which this year will feature a new format.

Aerolíneas Argentinas Fleet Renewal

At the Farnborough International Airshow, the state-owned airline signed contracts to acquire 14 new aircraft for delivery between 2028 and 2031. With additional units under negotiation, the total could reach 20 planes, replacing older models and maintaining a fleet of 84 aircraft.

Negotiations with Governors and Union Protests

The government has opened a round of talks with provincial governors to secure support for the 2027 Budget and the possible elimination of the PASO (primary elections). Chief of Staff Santilli and Eduardo "Lule" Menem are leading the discussions. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, retirees and social movements, led by the major unions CGT, CTA, and UTEP, held protests demanding higher pensions. The current minimum pension is ARS $481,989 (including a bonus of ARS $70,000).
