Forensic Findings Confirm Asphyxia
The forensic examination, conducted on the morning of Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the judicial morgue in Santa Fe city, confirmed that 6-year-old Izán Aguirre died of asphyxia, according to sources close to the case. Investigators are working on the hypothesis that the asphyxia was caused by strangulation or drowning, although additional analyses are still pending to determine the exact circumstances.

According to Juan Ramón, the night before the incident, the child had dinner at his house as usual. "Pura risa (pure laughter)," he recalled. The child had a medical certificate for a cold and fever. At 6:40 a.m., a neighbor alerted the family that the boy was complaining, but they attributed it to his illness. After receiving no response by noon, Juan Ramón forced the door open and discovered the fatal scene.
"He had a glazed stare, wide open eyes, and was speaking like someone else. I know she wouldn't have done this if she were conscious."
Mother Detained and Receiving Psychiatric Care
The mother, identified as R.M., 22 years old, was placed under preventive detention by order of the prosecutor. She has been hospitalized at the Mira y López Hospital in Santa Fe city, a specialized mental health facility, where she receives psychiatric and psychological care under judicial custody.
The grandfather defended his daughter-in-law in interviews: "My grandson never suffered abuse. Never. I wouldn't allow it" He recalled how close they were: "She was like a daughter to us". He also denied any drug use or history of violence, although he noted that neighbors had heard unusual noises during the early morning.

Prosecutor Daniela Montegrosso is leading the case. The Criminal Investigation Police (PDI) have been carrying out forensic evidence collection, reviewing security cameras, and interviewing witnesses.
