For those who miss the days of carefully crafted mixtapes on cassette, Spotify has a surprise that rekindles that nostalgia. According to multiple media reports on July 31, 2026, the music platform launched User Notes, a feature that allows you to add personalized text to individual songs within your playlists.
The goal of this tool is to create a much more intimate experience and differentiate itself from competitors like Apple Music and YouTube Music. Playlists are no longer just collections of tracks; they become true musical diaries.
This new feature lets listeners leave any kind of message next to each track. It could be a phrase, a reference, a dedication, or even the exact moment the user discovered that song. For example, you could note that you found a track while walking the streets of Paris or that it played during a first date.
Over time, these notes will paint a picture of the music listeners love and the moments that have marked them.
The process to add a note is very simple and doesn't require being a tech expert. Just follow these steps:
Once saved, the comment will appear below the song name for anyone with access to the playlist, along with the user's name linked to their public profile.
The feature is available for users over 16 years old, both on the free and Premium tiers. However, its rollout is gradual in selected markets. According to Rosario3, it will not be available in Argentina for now.
In addition to User Notes, Spotify also announced Running Mode, a feature for Premium subscribers that selects songs based on pace and running stages, available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.
