A Sea of People at San José 1111
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a massive crowd filled the streets around San José 1111, the residence where Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is serving house arrest, to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the assassination attempt she survived on September 1, 2022. Organized by the Kirchnerite movement, the rally aimed to renew demands for justice and show support for the former president.
The central event was led by Máximo Kirchner, national deputy and head of La Cámpora, who delivered a speech full of political statements and announcements that echoed across the national scene.
Máximo Kirchner's Announcements
In his address, Máximo Kirchner surprised the crowd by saying that Cristina "is getting ready" and that "she went to the UN to demand her political rights". In a phrase that sums up the movement's strategy, he declared: "She is not banned; we are banned, those of us who want to vote for her".
The deputy also targeted Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, referring to the "miseries of politics". This criticism comes amid Kicillof's decision not to sign the support document for CFK, a move that deepens the internal rift within Peronism.
A Document with Broad Support, but Notable Absences
During the day, a document titled "Democracy does not admit the elimination of the adversary" was presented, signed by 23 political parties and groups of Peronist, Radical, and progressive origins. Notable signatories include José Mayans (PJ), Sergio Massa (Frente Renovador), Miguel Pichetto (Encuentro Republicano Federal), Juan Grabois (Patria Grande), Guillermo Moreno, Ricardo Alfonsín, Leopoldo Moreau, Federico Storani, Emilio Pérsico, Martín Sabbatella, Carlos Heller, Claudio Lozano, Gustavo López, and Juan Carlos Alderete, among others.
However, the absence of Axel Kicillof and the rest of the PJ governors was a key political fact. According to sources close to the governor, Kicillof's space (Movimiento Derecho al Futuro - MDF) was not invited to sign. Kicillof only expressed himself through social media to condemn the attack, a gesture that did not ease internal tensions.
What the Document Says
The text strongly condemns the assassination attempt and criticizes "hate speech", "stigmatization campaigns", "fake news", and the "use of judicial, political, and media mechanisms to persecute, discipline, or exclude leaders". It is a statement that seeks to push the idea of political persecution against the former president.
Electoral Strategy: Cristina as Candidate in 2027
The rally also served to reaffirm the Kirchnerite electoral strategy for 2027: promoting Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's candidacy despite her disqualification from holding public office due to the Vialidad case. The idea, according to reports, would be to run her with a vice-presidential candidate who would take the lead on the ballot. La Cámpora and Kolina (Alicia Kirchner's party) are already pushing the candidacy with the campaign "Poder elegirla" (Power to choose her) and graffiti reading "Cristina presidenta".
Criticism of the Judiciary and the Economic Model
National Senator Anabel Fernández Sagasti also spoke, questioning the judiciary for "4 years of impunity", calling the investigation "rigged" and "shameful". She criticized the lack of investigation into the masterminds and financing of the attack, mentioning the "disappearance" of Sabag Montiel's phone and the "Milman lead being deactivated".
Máximo Kirchner also addressed Javier Milei's economic model, stating that "the brutal concentration of income is leaving Argentine families starving and without a future". He also criticized Fernando de la Rúa and Mauricio Macri, and called for "less talk about internal Peronist disputes".
A Closing with Music and a Call for Unity
The event ended with the song "Siempre regresaré" by Divididos, a track that has become an anthem for the movement. Máximo Kirchner closed his speech with a hopeful message: "Many now look at the polls and see how Cristina is growing", referring to voting intentions ahead of the next elections.
The day made clear that Kirchnerism seeks to capitalize on the anniversary of the attack to strengthen its political position and project Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as the great Peronist candidate for 2027, despite judicial obstacles and internal divisions.
