At an unprecedented event in Mexico City, Prime Video announced a historic investment of more than $2 billion for original productions in Latin America between 2027 and 2030. Argentina is one of the leading countries with series like Menem, Porno y Helado, and new bets like Las Malas.

Prime Video has made a bold move in the regional streaming market. During the 'Prime Video Presents Latinoamérica' event, held in Mexico City, the platform announced a record investment of over US$2 billion earmarked for original productions, locally acquired content, and sports rights in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.

The announcement, made on Thursday, August 20, marks a milestone: it is the first time a streaming platform has committed such a large sum to the region. According to Kelly Day, International Vice President of Prime Video, 'what is happening in Latin America right now is extraordinary: the talent, the stories, and the audiences. Today we are responding to that energy with an investment of more than 2 billion dollars by 2030.'

A Catalog Set to Double

The investment will allow Prime Video to more than double its number of local original productions by 2030. In 2027 alone, the platform plans to launch over 25 new titles across the five markets, including scripted series, films, reality shows, and docuseries. Executive Javiera Balmaceda, Head of International Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Amazon MGM Studios, emphasized that 'when you trust Latin American storytellers with ambition and resources, the world pays attention.'

Latin American audiences are already the platform's largest: according to company data, 200 million customers choose movies, series, and live sports on Prime Video each month, and among the 15 biggest recent global hits, the region accounts for the largest share of viewership. Hits like Argentina, 1985, Betty la fea: The Story Continues, Tremembé, and The House of the Spirits have demonstrated local potential.
