What Are Financial Dollars and How Much Do They Cost?
Financial dollars are mechanisms that allow access to foreign currency through the purchase and sale of bonds or stocks on the stock exchange. They are a widely used and completely legal alternative for saving in dollars without resorting to the informal market.
Dollar MEP (Electronic Payment Market)
This is the exchange rate obtained by buying a bond in pesos and selling it in the local market for dollars. The funds remain deposited in the country. It trades around $1,523.19.
Dollar CCL (Contado con Liquidación)
Similar to MEP, but the bond sale is executed abroad, allowing the transfer of foreign currency to accounts outside Argentina. It trades at approximately $1,585.52.
Credit Card Dollar and Crypto Dollar
The credit card dollar applies to purchases made with credit or debit cards abroad (such as Netflix or Spotify subscriptions). It is calculated by adding a 30% surcharge to the official dollar, so it hovers around $1,976. On the other hand, the crypto dollar, traded via stablecoins like USDT or USDC without traditional regulation, is near $1,599.16.
Economic Context: Inflation and Reserves
The market is eagerly awaiting the July inflation data, which will be released on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 4:00 PM. According to projections from private consulting firms surveyed by the media, the index would be similar to June's, ranging between 1.8% and 2.1%. This slowdown contributes to the stability of the exchange rate.
In another positive sign for the economy, the Central Bank (BCRA) reported that on Friday, August 7, it purchased 16 million dollars, bringing gross reserves to $49,455 million, a level that shows a solid recovery of the country's assets.
