Argentine Dollar Ends July with Calm: Official Rate Drops, Central Bank Boosts Reserves

31/07/2026 18:38 - Economia

Argentina's currency market wrapped up July 2026 with excellent news for the local economy: exchange rate stability that allows wages and savings to gain ground against inflation. According to multiple financial media reports, the greenback registered widespread declines in its main quotes, demonstrating the strength of the current economic plan.

Exchange Rates at Month-End

On July 31, 2026, the official dollar posted its third consecutive daily drop, a encouraging sign that confirms a slowdown in the pace of devaluation. Over the entire month, the wholesale exchange rate advanced only 0.2% (+ARS 3), its smallest monthly gain in four months, ending below the estimated inflation for the period.

Official and Bank Dollar
  • Wholesale: closed at ARS 1,485 for sale.
  • Banco Nación (Retail): stable at ARS 1,510 for sale.
  • Dollar Card (Tarjeta): stood at ARS 1,963 for international purchases.
Parallel and Financial Dollars
  • Blue Dollar (parallel market): fell ARS 5 to close at ARS 1,560 (accumulated a 3% rise in the month).
  • MEP (stock market dollar): rose 0.6% to ARS 1,517.67.
  • CCL (Contado con Liquidación): increased 1.6% to ARS 1,581.16.

The control of the exchange rate gap is another major achievement of the month. The difference between the wholesale dollar and the blue dollar remained around 5%, a narrow margin that favors planning for Argentine companies and families.

Record Reserves and Strong Dollar Inflow

Optimism in Buenos Aires' financial district is also supported by the solid position of the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA). In the last week of July, the monetary authority accelerated its purchase of foreign currency, adding USD 117 million in a single day. As a result, the stock of gross international reserves remained comfortable, closing above the threshold of USD 49,001 million.

Provinces and Companies Access International Credit

In a context of renewed confidence, Argentine provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) are issuing debt in international markets at the highest pace since 2017. According to strategist Alan Versalli from Cocos Capital, from November 2025 to July 2026, six jurisdictions placed external debt totaling nearly USD 4,900 million in seven separate operations, without the need for the national government to engage in new sovereign placements.
