Santa Fe Takes Control of Vital Route A012: Toll-Free Roadworks Begin

22/07/2026 12:31 - Economia

A Historic Milestone for Argentine Infrastructure

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, a significant milestone for the country's road infrastructure will take place at the Salón de Acuerdos in the Casa Rosada (the presidential palace in Buenos Aires). The Governor of the province of Santa Fe, Maximiliano Pullaro, will sign an agreement alongside Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli, General Secretary of the Presidency Karina Milei, and Minister of Economy Luis Caputo. This agreement transfers the administration of National Route A012 to the provincial government for a period of 20 years.

This marks the first time in Argentine history that the national government transfers the comprehensive administration of a national route to a province. The province will assume maintenance, rehabilitation, and the execution of new projects with its own funds. This move follows demands that began in early 2024 due to the paralysis of national public works and the progressive deterioration of this vital corridor.

Why is Route A012 so strategic?

Route A012 is the second ring road of the Rosario metropolitan area (Rosario is Argentina's third-largest city and a major port hub in Santa Fe). Spanning 67 kilometers (about 42 miles), it begins and ends within Santa Fe territory, connecting multiple towns, industrial parks, and residential areas.

Its role is absolutely crucial for the national logistics system. According to the Rosario Board of Trade, nearly 80% of Argentina's national grain, flour, and oil exports are shipped through the Greater Rosario port complex. The route allows heavy traffic to bypass urban zones, serving as a distributor road to more than 30 port terminals stretching from Timbúes to Arroyo Seco.

The Roadwork Plan: Getting to Work

Machinery from the construction company Pose will kick off the first interventions on Thursday, July 23, 2026. With a budget of $5,000 million Argentine pesos (ARS), the immediate action plan has an execution timeframe of 6 to 7 months and includes:

  • ✔️ Deep and surface concrete repairs (pothole patching).
  • ✔️ Reconstruction with CA30 asphalt and AM3 mix.
  • ✔️ Crack sealing and texturizing to eliminate rutting.
  • ✔️ Shoulder clearing, lighting replacement, and new signage.
  • ✔️ A new roundabout at the intersection with Route 25 and a project for the old Route 9.

No Tolls in the First Stage

Excellent news for transporters and drivers: the works in this initial stage will be carried out without charging tolls. To implement a toll in the future, the provincial government will need to request special permission from the national government.

The provincial executive branch is also considering the creation of a single fee for trucks entering the port road circuit. This would resolve the current overlap of municipal taxes through a trust fund, greatly benefiting the competitiveness of the agro-industry.
