A night of terror unfolded in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Spain. The floor of a local establishment suddenly collapsed, triggering a roof cave-in that left nearly 30 people trapped under rubble. A massive emergency operation was launched to rescue the patrons and provide urgent medical care.

Panic gripped the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, located in the autonomous community of La Rioja (a region in northern Spain renowned for its vineyards and wine production), during the early hours of this Saturday. Around 5:25 AM, what seemed like a normal night turned into chaos when the structure of a local bar violently gave way.

According to initial reports, the incident began with a floor collapse, a structural failure that triggered a domino effect, causing the immediate collapse of the roof. The result was devastating: between 25 and 30 people were reportedly trapped beneath the debris.

Emergency Balance:

  • 11 people injured in total.
  • 6 transferred to the San Pedro University Hospital in Logroño.
  • 2 transferred to the Haro health center.
  • The remaining injured were treated on-site for minor injuries.

The security deployment was immediate and coordinated to prevent a greater tragedy. The operation included the intervention of several security and health forces:

Emergency Body Resources Deployed
Guardia Civil 4 patrol cars
Firefighters Multiple specialized vehicles
Medical Personnel 8 professionals in 2 ambulances

While firefighters worked intensely on the shoring up of the building (the process of supporting a structure to prevent further collapse) to ensure no one else remained trapped, the Guardia Civil of La Rioja has already initiated the corresponding judicial proceedings. The objective is to determine if there were negligences in construction or a lack of maintenance that could have caused the structural failure of the building.
