Argentina's National Route 5 (RN 5), one of the country's busiest road corridors, is undergoing a historic transformation: 546 kilometers of active works with 30 simultaneous interventions aimed at improving connectivity between Luján (Buenos Aires province) and Santa Rosa (La Pampa province).
This was announced by Pentavia, the concessionaire company managing the corridor, through its social media channels, where they shared a video showcasing the progress under the slogan “Proyectando tu camino” (Projecting your path).
What Does This Project Involve?
The tasks range from repaving and road surface improvements to signage, lighting, and road safety works. The goal is to optimize a corridor that connects the northwest of Buenos Aires with the Pampas region, crucial for cargo transport, tourism, and daily traffic of thousands of vehicles.
According to official sources, the interventions are being carried out in different sections simultaneously to minimize impact on traffic and speed up execution times.
A Strategic Corridor
The RN 5 is a vital route linking Buenos Aires City with the west of the country, passing through towns such as Mercedes, Suipacha, Chivilcoy, Bragado, 9 de Julio, and Carlos Casares, among others. Its importance lies not only in local traffic but also in serving as an alternative to the Route 7 corridor towards Cuyo and southern Mendoza.
The concessionaire Pentavia (a joint venture of Grupo MSU and Rovella Carranza) is responsible for managing and maintaining this corridor, which is part of the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) system promoted by the national government.
What Exactly Is Being Done?
While the full detail of each work has not been published, the released images show pavement milling, placement of new asphalt layers, shoulder improvements, and horizontal and vertical signage works. Also visible are weed clearing and culvert cleaning, essential to prevent flooding.
In recent months, the section between Luján and Mercedes has been one of the most intervened, with significant progress on the highway that already connects both cities. Once completed, the corridor is expected to offer greater fluidity and safety, reducing travel times and accident rates.

Both Vialidad Nacional (National Roads Authority) and the concessionaire assure that the plan will continue in the coming months, with new tenders and work fronts. The road community celebrates these advances, though it calls for maintaining speed and quality control.
