Russia Launches Massive Drone and Missile Attack on Ukraine, Killing at Least 8

30/07/2026 15:52 - Internacionales

A Night of Unprecedented Firepower

According to reports from Deutsche Welle (DW) and Infobae, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed a massive strike targeting military installations, telecommunications hubs, and logistics centers across Ukraine during the night of July 29–30, 2026.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky detailed that the offensive included more than 70 missiles and approximately 280 drones. Cities such as Kyiv, Lviv, and regions including Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, and Cherkasy were hit.

This attack is part of the ongoing war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The conflict has seen repeated waves of aerial bombardments, with both sides using drones and missiles extensively.

Casualties and a Family Tragedy

The human cost was severe. Official Ukrainian sources cited by DW and Infobae confirmed at least 8 dead and more than 30 wounded. However, the Spanish newspaper El País raised the figure to 13 fatalities, including four children.

One of the most heartbreaking incidents occurred in the village of Radushne, near Kryvyi Rih. A ballistic missile struck a residential home, killing five members of a single family—among them three children. Two other minors were rescued alive from the rubble. In Kryvyi Rih itself, authorities reported the impact of an Iskander-M missile, which El País suggested might be of North Korean origin, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Ballistic missiles like the Iskander-M are designed for high-speed, precision strikes and are difficult to intercept. Drones, often Iranian-made Shahed models, are used by Russia to overwhelm air defenses.

Poland on Alert and the Plea for Patriots

The attack's reach extended beyond Ukraine. According to El País and Vatican News, Polish airspace was breached. At 03:40 local time, Polish command detected an unidentified object crossing its territory. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that evidence points to a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, with a 10-meter-wide crater found near Lublin.

In response, President Zelensky urgently appealed to the international community: 'No one in the world can be left alone against such terror.' He specifically requested the supply of Patriot missile systems—advanced surface-to-air defense systems made by the United States that can intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft. Zelensky argued that the lack of such interceptors leads to 'this kind of destruction.'

Poland, a NATO member, has been a key ally of Ukraine, providing military aid and hosting refugees. The violation of its airspace underscores the risks of escalation beyond Ukraine's borders.
